Dr Bethune, I Presume?

Publius, or rather Richard Anderson as he now goes by, comments on the Tories’ support for the new Bethune visitors’ centre.

The photo-op in Gravenhurst is not about the historical Norman Bethune, Canada’s most famous useful idiot. It is about the legend of Doctor Bethune. A legend which a ruthless Communist Party uses to provide moral cover for its various crimes past and present. Gangsters passing themselves off as statesman using a long-dead Canadian as a prop. Then our own modern useful idiots, motivated by short-term greed rather than irrational ideology, pander to the legend so they can better pander to the gangsters.

Clement Stands Firm on Centre for Communist Surgeon

Despite opposition from within his own party over it.

Treasury Board President Tony Clement is defending federal spending of $2.5 million on a centre dedicated to Canadian Maoist communist, Dr. Norman Bethune.

“He was a great innovator and inventor of medical instruments that saved many thousands of lives,” Clement told reporters in Winnipeg Thursday.

“Those are the kind of things we’re honouring.”

He also lashed out at Sun News Network for coverage criticizing the funding of the centre celebrating the card-carrying communist.

“To suggest that I myself or members of our government are soft on communism is quite frankly laughable.”

But Clement who has taken heat in the past for the $50 million worth of G8 Infrastructure Legacy funds spent throughout his Ontario riding of Parry Sound-Muskoka said the federal stimulus dollars spent on this project were no different from cash that was spread across the country.

I agree with Rob Anders (see the video at the link above) and this commentary.
