A man who texted while driving “I need to quit texting because I could die in a car accident” nearly died in a car accident when his truck plunged off a bridge and into a ravine.
Chance Bothe, 21, got a second chance at life — but only after extensive surgery and more than six months of rehabilitation at a hospital in Houston, Texas.
The college student was driving his pickup and messaging a friend on Jan. 24, KHOU News reports. After the text admonishing himself for texting, he wrote “b right there.”
Then his truck veered off a bridge and plummeted 35 feet.
Bothe suffered traumatic brain injuries, a broken neck, a punctured lung, compound leg fractures, a fractured skull, sternum and rib fractures, and a fractured face that required reconstructive surgery, according to the report. Doctors had to bring him back to life three times.
