Whoda thunkit? (/sarcasm)

A variety of genetically modified maize (corn). France’s government asked a health watchdog to carry out a probe, possibly leading to EU suspension of a genetically-modified corn, after a study in rats linked the grain to cancer.
Earlier, French scientists led by Gilles-Eric Seralini at the University of Caen in Normandy unveiled a study that said rats fed with NK603 corn or exposed to the weedkiller used with it developed tumours.
NK603 is a corn, also called maize, made by US agribusiness giant Monsanto.
It has been engineered to make it resistant to Monsanto’s herbicide Roundup.
This enables farmers to douse fields with the weedkiller in a single go, thus offering substantial savings.
Genetically modified (GM) crops are widely grown in North America, Brazil and China but are a hot-button issue in Europe.
Hey, you don’t suppose they could have rushed through approval of ‘Roundup Ready’ crops without proper testing, in Canada, the U.S., Brazil and China, could they? Nah; of course not.
Maybe we should agitate against fur and animal experimentation as well.
What? Why?
On the contrary, I want to see proper testing done with GM crops, for side effects, before releasing them to market; that’s all.
If that had been done with, oh, thalidomide, back in the day, we wouldn’t have had thalidomide babies…
As for fur and animal experimentation, I’m all for it. Fuck animal rights; they have none; they have the right to become food or clothes or have rabbits’ eyes given cancer with make-up formulations so we’ll know which ones to not make for women’s make-up.
And we need to test on rats to learn effects of GM crops, before human consumption. Or would you rather we people get cancer?
Anyway, to be fair, there are critics of the French study:

So let’s have more studies done, and an honest, open debate in society about GM crops…
