  1. It’s notable when anyone famous risks arrest by supporting a revolutionary leader, as Walesa was when EJ praised him during a concert there in 1984. Solzhenitsyn would be wondering if he should have been writing pop songs instead of books :)

    Certainly, Elton John is to be commended for having championed Lech Walesa, though I doubt, as a highly prominent celebrity, he was ever in any real danger of being held for very long, if actually arrested.
