Daredevil Wallenda Tiptoes into History With Walk Across Niagara Falls

Good on him.

He made it.

With his father’s voice in his ear, praising the Lord all the way, and carrying his passport to present to authorities, Nik Wallenda tiptoed into history Friday night by a daredevil feat that had more than 100,000 spectators holding their breath. People follow many routes from the United States to Canada, but Mr. Wallenda crossed the border above the majestic roar of the Niagara Gorge, a natural wonder that has awed spectators since before history was recorded. The helicopters hovered, the stadium lights were on, the television cameras poised and the happy and hopeful multitudes assembled.

Mr. Wallenda, 33, is the first person to cross the gorge since James Hardy, at 21, the youngest funambulist ever to dare the fates, the wind and mist, performed the stunt in 1896 and survived.
