Maritime Distress Call from Newfoundland Fisherman Routed to Italian Call Centre

What the heck?

A medical distress call from a fisherman off the coast of Newfoundland that was routed to a doctor in Italy who barely spoke English left the Tories scrambling for answers in Question Period today.

Fisherman Shang Rideout told the CBC he radio called the coast guard’s communications centre in St. Anthony when his father started feeling dizzy and temporarily lost his vision as they sailed 130 km northeast of the town of Twillingate.

Mr. Rideout was then transferred to a doctor in Rome, who had no idea where Newfoundland and Labrador were and didn’t bother to ask about his father’s symptoms. Mr. Rideout grew frustrated and decided to take his father back to the mainland, a trip that took 10 hours.

This is why, in addition to their non-performance on social issues, the Tories suck: closing over-crowded prisons to save money, and cutting back on Coast Guard service – all pointless, petty gestures, that don’t save much, compared to the many other things that could and should be cut.
